The meat of photographer Cirillo’s book is in his candid, colorful shots of the incredible fashion and street styles that can be found in New York City every day. He organizes the book by what he calls “A to Z fashions.” For example, the “B” section includes looks that are baggy, bohemian, or given an extra touch of pizzazz, thanks to the addition of a bandanna, belt, beret, blazer, bucket hat, or band tee. Some of the book’s pages have quotes from the people featured in the photos. The title also incorporates full-page interviews of some of Cirillo’s subjects. He highlights the people he calls “celebrities” of New York street style, those self-made and DIY designers who are seen out and about NYC in one-of-a-kind creations that catch the eye and attention of everyone they pass.
VERDICT This whimsical alphabetical journey is an homage to the people of New York City. Readers will enjoy perusing pages and pages of fashion and NYC street scenes and might even decide to emulate some of the amazing looks.
