Building on the idea of the "Sixth Sense," a new instinct suggested by Friedrich Nietzsche that would be required to be successful in the changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution, Ramo (co-chief executive & vice chair, Kissinger Associates; The Age of the Unthinkable) suggests a new instinct for the networked world, which he dubs the "Seventh Sense." The networks Ramo refers to are not limited to computed networks but cover the entire connected way of life. The book is broken down into three parts. The first part looks at how we have arrived at this moment and why this is a turning point, while the second considers how networks and connectivity work, from finance and Facebook to disruptive business ideas. The third section addresses what this all means and how leaders need to let go of the old ways of thinking and embrace a new way of seeing the networked world.
VERDICT Ramo provides a thought-provoking view of the changes a networked world has brought and some ways that leaders in business, politics, and beyond can use new ideas to address new problems. This book will appeal to those interested in business and politics, as well as general readers. [See Prepub Alert, 11/16/15.]
