Fiction author Holcombe (Satan's Angel) turns his 50 years of interest in UFOs into a nonfiction work detailing how U.S. presidents have been involved in the UFO phenomenon since World War II. Like many UFO authors, Holcombe admits to once having sighted a UFO, which left a lasting impression on him and a rather large bias toward UFO belief. While Holcombe lists many endnotes, those notes could have been more formal and directed to explaining where he sourced some of his information. (Citing Wikipedia and YouTube does not enhance his credibility.) His bibliography seems rather sparse considering the size and scope of this book, which spans every president between Franklin D. Roosevelt and Barack Obama. Obviously, presidents have been involved in policy discussions dealing with the UFO phenomenon, but Holcombe's book, while containing lots of interesting information, falls short in pulling that data together in a coherent way. Trying to validate a UFO connection to the Kennedy assassination is probably a low point.
VERDICT While Holcombe's writing and topic are interesting, his book suffers from a lack of professionalism. Only libraries that must have every UFO book ever written will want this one.
