This penultimate season of the TNT series takes a sharp turn. After an apocalyptic virus destroys 95 percent of the world's population, a cure is found and life is heading back to normal. Admiral Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) leaves the ship and is living with family, enjoying the simple life in a Greek fishing village. Captain Slattery (Adam Baldwin), now in command of the U.S.S. Nathan James, and his crew discover that the virus has "jumped kingdoms" and now infects the world's crops, creating global famine. Soon our heroes are on an epic journey fighting various villains and conspiracies to secure virus-resistent seeds that were stolen from a seed bank. It takes a while, but Chandler eventually reconnects with his crew. This season was specifically modeled on Homer's The Odyssey, with Chandler and company navigating the Mediterranean. Twists and turns galore should keep viewers interested. The production values and effects have always been exceptional, and this season is no different. Bonus features include Inside the Last Ship, insight into the series, its characters, and actors, and The Last Ship's Odyssey, a 13-minute examination of how the series compares to Homer's original story.
VERDICT Fans of the show and those who like high-seas adventure will enjoy.
