Award-winning artist Collins (
Colour Demystified) presents a quick, high-quality guide to color theory, mixing techniques, and the paint categories of acrylic, oil, and watercolor. The book is aimed primarily at beginning painters, although some of the information on color theory and mixing could well be used by other crafters, such as those who create fiber arts projects. This title is not ideal, however, for experienced painters looking to increase their skills. There’s plenty for beginners, such as extensive charts of color mixes and palettes that showcase the wide variety of hues that can be created with one or two primary selections. This book also includes useful information about each paint type and the selection and care of the tools and materials required to create paintings. It is essentially three separate books bundled together. As a result, some information is replicated in each of the three sections, which may be a turnoff to some crafters.
VERDICT Useful for beginners or as a quick-lookup guide.
