The Lintotts, a mother-daughter duo who are quilt experts and authors of
Quilts from Quarters, showcase 25 of their best and favorite jelly-roll quilt designs from previous books. Most of their patterns are for lap quilts, and they use one jelly roll (40 two-and-a-half-inch strips) and a background fabric. Some are large enough to fit a twin-sized bed. There’s an adorable teddy bear baby quilt that uses only half of a jelly roll. Other highlights include the High Seas at Hastings design, which is made from a jelly roll and a border, whereas the Neapolitan utilizes two jelly rolls. For most quilts, two or three strips are sewn together before they’re cut into additional squares, triangles, or hexagons. This book’s instructions are easy to follow. They start with the sorting of strips into color families or hues and continue step-by-step all the way through the binding process. Cutting and assembly steps are accompanied by clear illustrations, and the finished quilts are beautifully photographed. These patterns could be easily accomplished by a beginner.
VERDICT As jelly rolls continue to be popular, this book would be a great choice for any quilting collection.
