Sports writer Stewart (You’re the Basketball Ref) has assembled questions pertaining to professional basketball. These questions cover the invention of the game, the events that led up to the creation of the National Basketball Association in 1949, a view of the professional league through 1999, and the game today. The book’s questions ask about a wide range of aspects of basketball, from how the first baskets differ from those used today, to players’ attitudes about signing autographs for fans. But some of the questions and trivia bits will seem quite random to readers. Those looking for a basketball reference book or a comprehensive history of the game will be disappointed; however, Stewart’s writing style is enjoyable, easy, and appealing.
VERDICT Basketball fans who just want to brush up on their basketball knowledge or trivia will find this a fun read, but note that it’s neither a ready reference nor a historical overview of the sport.
