Quilt designer Moore’s (Ultimate Paper Piecing Reference Guide) book is an introduction to making bags with quilting. This title’s projects make good use of scrap fabric, and many of them can be made from a fat quarter or two. Moore aims at experienced sewists; there’s an expectation that readers are familiar with their machines and already have the basic equipment to get started. This is a well-illustrated book with good step-by-step images. However, there are a few places where a little bit more explanation would have been helpful. While most of the bags are accessible to home sewists, people with lighter-weight machines may find some of the heavy layers a bit challenging to sew through. One concern for libraries is the book’s inclusion of templates; Moore makes it clear that readers can work without them, but the details about how to do so are scant.
VERDICT Good for experienced sewists who are looking to expand into bag making.
