In order to stand out in a sea of applicants, Sjodin's (founder, sales-training & consulting firm Sjodin Communications; Small Message, Big Impact) book suggests readers reach for unconventional and creative solutions to problems. It is a pity, however, that, with such an emphasis on innovation, this is a rather conventional business title. Like so many other similar works, it is padded with checklists, illustrations, and quizzes. Also, each bit of guidance is illustrated with anecdotes from the lives of other business owners and founders. The ideas are interesting and the stories of both successes and failures are clever and sometimes funny, though they might have been better served having been expounded aloud by a dynamic public speaker.
VERDICT This would be a solid read for anyone who enjoyed Gabriel Weinberg and Justin Mares's Traction, Gino Wickman and Mark C. Winters's Rocket Fuel, Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler's Bold, and many more read-alikes.
