Taylor Mathews is used to taking care of herself—and others, too. She's spent most of her life struggling to balance her own needs with tending her alcoholic mother. She's currently nursing wounded pride (among other things) after her breakup with charismatic neurosurgeon Mac Stone, who was tired of Taylor shutting down and icing him out when things got serious. But both of them know they can't stay apart and that their feelings run deeper than undeniable lust. The quasicouple want to rebuild and are well on the way to rekindling their flame—until an acquaintance at Mac's hospital becomes obsessed with Taylor, leaving explicit voice mails and breaking into her home. Taylor's first instinct is to withdraw, but Mac is determined to show her what love looks like when you find the right person. Payne and Blue (No White Knight) keep readers' minds and hearts racing in this latest series addition. New readers might be a bit lost for context, particularly around Mac's love of racing and his prior relationship with Taylor. However, these elements don't detract from the thrilling momentum of their sexcapades, or the rapid escalation of the stalker subplot.
VERDICT A strong installment to a delightfully steamy series.
