Marfa Garden: The Wonders of Dry Desert Plants

Designers, photographers, and gardeners Fissel, Martha Hughes, Jim Martinez, and Saxon collaborate on a colorful tribute to more than 60 flowering plants in the Chihuahuan Desert region, which includes west Texas, parts of New Mexico, Northern Mexico, and Arizona. The one-acre home garden in Marfa, TX, sits in the higher elevations of the 140,000 square miles of desert area. Each plant is photographed up close to reveal exquisite details of flowers, leaves, and other structures, and represented in various phases of growth cycles, from seeds and buds to blooms. A diverse collection of grasses, trees, herbs, shrubs, cacti, vines, and succulents are covered. A quick-reference appendix provides facts for cultivating each specimen and provides enjoyment of stunning botanical photographs and inclusion of these florae in xeriscape designs.
