Set in post-World War II Kentucky, the latest entry in Gabhart's historical series (after Angel Sister; Small Town Girl) finds the Merritt sisters looking forward to the futures they had planned prior to the war's start. Unfortunately, not everyone has returned home, including Victoria's husband, a fact she struggles to accept. Kate wants a baby with Jay, and Evangeline would love to live in a beautiful house. And Lorena wonders about her birth family. But, the war has changed many things, and not all of the siblings' dreams can or will come true. The sisters must hold on to their faith that God will fulfill their desires in due time.
VERDICT Fans of previous series installments will delight in this new addition, and readers of Debbie Macomber and postwar dramas might be tempted to add it to their reading lists.
