The purpose of this DVD is to teach humans how to communicate with horses in the same way horses communicate with one another. Author Wilsie is a horse trainer, rehabilitation specialist, intercollegiate coach, and riding instructor. Her instructions are easy to follow; this reviewer tried them with her own horse and the reactions were exactly as predicted. Wilsie demonstrates with three horses with different personalities: one is stoic and calm, one very friendly, and one somewhat nervous, yet all respond well. Wilsie explains what buttons to push to get specific results such as say hello, move away, move back, come forward, step sideways, etc. The video would be even better if it demonstrated the techniques with rescue horses. It is also unfortunate that these communication tips do not apply to mounted work.
VERDICT Particularly useful to therapeutic riding instructors, horse rescue workers, and anyone who likes to spend time around horses.
