Artist Lord has created a comprehensive guide to drawing anime-style creatures. She divides her book into five sections and bases each on creature type: “Land Walkers,” “Air Gliders,” “Sea Splashers,” “Night Dwellers,” and the bonus “Mythical Combos,” which is ideal for readers who want to create their own character types. The book contains highly detailed instructions for drawing 57 different creatures, with both traditional and digital drawing tools. As in anime, some images are somewhat realistic, whereas others are cartoonish, so all anime lovers will find something in this book that they will enjoy creating. The book will appeal to readers new to anime, but it doesn’t provide as much of a guide to get started with the art form as many other drawing guides do.
VERDICT A one-stop shop for some beginners and experienced artists who want to learn how to draw creatures in an anime style.
