Twelve jumbo-sized amigurumi animals are showcased in this book by crochet designer and artist Bergstrom (101 Super Cute Things To Draw). Most amigurumi pattern books are written for a medium (worsted) weight yarn. In order to guarantee maximum huggability, however, Bergstrom designed these patterns specifically for super bulky yarn, which guarantees larger and more cuddly results. But all the patterns can be made with worsted-weight yarn if the crocheter wants a smaller outcome. The patterns range from aquatic animals (platypus, narwhal) to pets and those mostly seen in a zoo (lion, elephant). The patterns are nicely laid out and easy to follow; photographs and Bergstrom’s whimsical drawings accompany every project. Outside of the flamingo, sloth, llama, and octopus, the other eight patterns share a similar body structure and design, making this book perfect for amigurumi beginners. Experienced crocheters will appreciate that many of the appendages are crocheted directly onto the body and require minimal sewing.
VERDICT Bergstrom has a strong Instagram presence, so her fans will be asking for this cute book. A good addition to any crochet collection.
