After his grandmother's death, Chris Walker learned a devastating family secret that changed his viewpoint on everything—his faith, his fiancée, his career. In an attempt to find balance in his life again, Chris visits his grandfather, Gilbert "Gil" Walker, a retired Baptist minister coping with his wife's passing and the aftermath of a stroke, for a long weekend. As he engages in a faith-based dialog with Gil, Chris discovers that the answers he needed were with him all along.
VERDICT Wax, the author of several nonfiction titles (Counterfeit Gospels; Holy Subversion) draws on the work of G.K. Chesterton to open a discussion between Chris and Gil (named for G.K.) about faith in his debut novel. Libraries with active book discussion groups should consider this title since it covers a broad range of topics in a short period and is enhanced with discussion questions for each chapter, not just the book as a whole. However, the question-and-answer dialog may limit the appeal for casual readers, so purchase accordingly.
