Years of working as a nanny, owning a business, and going through in vitro fertilization have given author, childcare advocate, and philanthropist Romano unique insight into the foundations of what makes a close group of people a village. Her first book goes into detail about both how to build one for oneself and how to be a better member of someone else’s village. While supportive communities of parents are used heavily as examples, Romano makes it clear that the suggestions are for anyone to use. She also discusses how people can have many different villages (in-person, online, or both). This in-depth workbook provides an interactive experience, with essential questions/quizzes for readers making up a large part of the text. The book recognizes six different types of villagers and dedicates a chapter to each. Readers will recognize others who fit roles in their village and how to find those qualities in themselves.

VERDICT A versatile title that is relevant for many individual life situations. Excellent for libraries from big cities to rural towns.
