In her first book, embroidery Instagrammer Vogelsinger relates hints and tips for creating vibrant, contemporary pieces using simple supplies and techniques. The introductory chapters present thorough coverage of tools, fabrics, and supplies used in embroidery, including a basic stitch guide with lovely photographs of colorful stitch samplers. Though much of the book focuses on pieces that are permanently mounted in the hoop and used as home decor, Vogelsinger also provides details about embroidery as an embellishment on clothing and accessories, as well as sources for motivation.
VERDICT Although not comprehensive, this is a solid guide for beginners who are interested in exploring decorative embroidery and hoop art. Fans of modern embroidery artists, such as Rebecca Ringquist, will relish Vogelsinger's colorful approach.
