Kate Burkholder, chief of police in the fictional Amish community of Painters Mill, OH, was born Amish but has since left the community. She and her team are investigating a series of brutal murders, and an Amish doll found on the bodies seems to link the crimes to an infamous 35-year-old incident in which an Amish father and his four children were killed and the mother disappeared. Castillo's characters and unique setting provide a rich and interesting canvas for crime and mayhem. Series reader Kathleen McInerney does an excellent job.
VERDICT Highly recommended for audio mystery collections. ["Castillo weaves a taut mystery…that will keep suspense fans glued to their books and ereaders," read the starred review of the Minotaur: St. Martin's hc, LJ 6/15/14.]
