The Cop with the Pink Pistol

. 978-0-97737-878-4. M
A Greenwich Village apartment robbery introduces daytime soap opera actor Conner Anderson to sexy NYPD detective Donna Prima when she takes his report. Conner can't resist telling her about the odd goings-on at the bar and liquor store across the street. Intrigued, Donna spies through the window with him. They hit pay dirt when a limo arrives, guys go in, shots are fired, and different men emerge. Oddly, it is deemed a false alarm. Undaunted, Donna and Conner continue to watch, and now the trash trucks show up. What is there for them to do but follow? The pink snub-nosed revolver strapped to Donna's ankle might not meet regulations, but the dynamic duo will be glad Donna packed heat.
VERDICT With a wink and generous helpings of tongue-in-cheek humor, Basnight dishes up a delicious debut that will strongly appeal to anyone who loves amateur sleuths and colorful cops. Don't worry about keeping track of all the classic crime film and fiction references that Basnight peppers throughout the plot; I, too, gave up.
