This collection from 2017 has six films featuring different themes, styles, and story lines. Actress Kristen Stewart (Twilight) makes her directorial debut in Come Swim, about a man's day filmed in impressionist and realist portraits. Peter Huang's 5 Films About Technology takes a humorous view of the silliness of technology. Jury Award winner for U.S. Fiction, Lucia, Before and After, by Anu Valia, introduces a young woman waiting for an abortion in Texas. Marshall Tyler's Night Shift follows a third-shift bathroom attendant at an L.A. nightclub. Pussy, by Renata Gasiorowska, is an animated short about a woman's desire to have some alone time, but certain anatomical parts have a mind of their own. And the Whole Sky Fit in the Dead Cow's Eye, a Spanish-language film by Francisca Alegria, features a woman who loses something precious but can regain it through sacrifice; it took the International Fiction Award.
VERDICT A fine addition to academic libraries with film studies curricula.
