When legendary college football coach Stoops announced his retirement from the University of Oklahoma in 2017, it surprised everyone in the college football world. For nearly two decades, Stoops was one of the faces of college football coaching at Oklahoma and among the most successful coaches in the sport. In his authorial debut, Stoops, along with ESPN reporter Wojciechowski, tells his life story, beginning with his upbringing in Youngstown, OH. The author shares insight into his childhood, his lengthy football career, and his decision to retire from coaching at Oklahoma. Additionally, he addresses controversial decisions he made both off and on the field, an important aspect of this memoir. Coauthor Wojciechowski is a well-respected college sports journalist, and his quality writing is evident throughout.
VERDICT This book will appeal to fans of college football as well as the University of Oklahoma but may not have wide appeal to general sports fans.
