A Twist in the Tail

Grand Central. (Oyster Cove Guesthouse, Bk. 1). Jul. 2020. 272p. ISBN 9781538736203. pap. $6.99. M
Following her divorce from a chef, Josie Waters buys the Oyster Cove Guesthouse in Maine from her mother’s best friend, Millie, although Josie knows nothing about running a B&B, and not much more about cooking. One of her guests, Charles Prescott, complains about his eggs, but it wasn’t Josie who killed him and left him in her locked west wing. When the two resident cats, Nero and Marlowe, find the body, the 80-year-old sheriff focuses on Josie, so she teams up with her mother and Millie to find the killer. But, it’s actually the two cats, along with their gang of five other cats, who steer the amateur sleuths in the right direction. Nero and Marlowe must capture a killer, while Josie bumbles her way through the case, focusing first on one suspect, and then another.
VERDICT The author of the “Mystic Notch Cat” cozies introduces another group of feline detectives who guide the investigation for humans. Readers crazy for cat cozies in the style of Clea Simon’s “Witch Cats of Cambridge” series might appreciate this quirky mystery.
