Clem Guthro has been named the University Librarian for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa; Joanneke Elliott is the new African Studies and West European Studies Librarian at UNC–Chapel Hill Libraries; Christian Zabriskie will be the new Director of Onondaga County Public Libraries, NY; and more new hires, promotions, retirements, and obituaries.

Kevin Booe, Director of Boise Public Library, ID, since 2007, has announced his retirement, effective December 23.

Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, MD, has appointed Nicholas A. Brown, previously a music and program specialist at the Library of Congress and most recently Director of Special Productions and Initiatives at Washington Performing Arts (and a 2019 LJ Mover & Shaker), as its Chief Operating Officer for Communication and Outreach.

The University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill University Libraries has appointed Joanneke Elliott as African Studies and West European Studies Librarian. Prior to this appointment, Elliott was Interim Library Liaison for German Studies, French Collections, and African Studies at UNC–Chapel Hill.

Ed Gallagher, Director of Albany Public Library, NY, will retire on January 31 after a 21-year career with the city.

Clement “Clem” Guthro, former Dean of the Library at California State University Fullerton, has been named the new University Librarian for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, effective January 2, 2020. He succeeds Interim University Librarian Monica Ghosh.

On November 19, Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero announced the appointment of Mark Atwood Lawrence as the new Director of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library and Museum, effective January 5, 2020. For the past 18 years, Lawrence has taught undergraduate and graduate history at the University of Texas at Austin and most recently worked as the Principal Historical Adviser for the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus, OH.

The New Orleans Public Library Board of Directors approved Gabriel Morley, currently the executive director of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, as the new Library Executive Director/City Librarian. Morley succeeds Charles Brown, who retired in March.

Christian Zabriskie, currently Branch Administrator, Yonkers Public Library, NY, will become the new Director of Onondaga County Public Libraries, NY, in January 2020.
