In this informative webinar, learn how Library Journal's SELF-e program and outreach events like Indie Author Day form a platform for building strong ties to local writing communities. You’ll hear from a library that has successfully added SELF-e and Indie Author Days into their community engagement mix. An indie author will speak about her experience as an aspiring writer turned SELF-e Select author. Experts from both Library Journal and the Indie Author Day team will be on hand to answer questions and drive discussion on how libraries and local writing communities are forming ever-stronger partnerships as the book world continues to become more indie. Panelists Catherine Royalty - Acquisitions Manager, Los Angeles Public Library Catherine Royalty has worked for the Los Angeles Public Library since 2004. As Acquisitions Manager, Catherine oversees the ordering of print and A/V materials for LAPL’s 72 branches and Central Library, as well as assisting in the development of the library’s virtual collection. She is honored to work with LA’s vibrant local author community on a regular basis. Darcy Fray - Author, The Officially Unofficial Files of Dr. Gordon B. Gray Darcy Fray is a multifaceted artist/author born and bred in the Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania. She currently resides in Los Angeles where she is the Director of Creativity at iamthinker.com, a multi-disciplinary visual boutique specializing in photography, film & graphic design. The Officially Unofficial Files of Dr. Gordon B. Gray is her first novel. Allie McKinney - Lead Strategist, Indie Author Day Allie McKinney manages programs that support author-library relationships throughout the United States and abroad. In her role, she coordinates opportunities for libraries to make an impact on the indie writing community like Indie Author Day and SELF-e. Kiera Parrott - Reviews Director, Library Journal & School Library Journal Kiera Parrott is the reviews director for School Library Journal and Library Journal and a former children's librarian. Her favorite books are ones that make her cry—or snort—on public transportation. Moderator Porter Anderson - Editor-in-Chief, Publishing Perspective Porter Anderson (@Porter_Anderson) BA, MA, MFA, is a journalist, speaker and consultant specializing in book publishing. Formerly with CNN, The Village Voice, The Dallas Times Herald and other media, he is Editor-in-Chief of Publishing Perspectives, founded by the German Book Office New York, the magazine for the international publishing industry. This year under the aegis of his Porter Anderson Media consultancy, Anderson will be speaking, covering and/or programming events at major publishing conferences and trade shows from the spring’s Digital Book World, London Book Fair, Publishers Forum in Berlin and BookExpo America in Chicago to the autumn's Frankfurt Book Fair, Novelists Inc., Books in Browsers and The FutureBook 2016, along with other events. More information is at PorterAnderson.com.
