Through her clairaudient experiences with 15 horses when she lived and worked in Costa Rica, she learned much about herself and how to begin to heal from the struggles and pain in her life, including the end of a 30-year marriage and the loss of a daughter. Her telepathic communication also proved invaluable for the horses' owners, who were fascinated with her translation abilities. Each horse's touching story is told here, teaching valuable life lessons, as Berne offers her philosophical ideas on the nature of the creatures.
VERDICT Very much in the same vein as other books on the healing nature of the horse-human bond, e.g., Susan Richards's Saddled, or Nancy Shulins's Falling for Eli, but with a more spiritual emphasis, this title will inspire readers who can take the leap of faith in Berne's journey and accept the words she attributes to each of the animals. Horse enthusiasts will be especially enchanted, but any animal lover who enjoys spiritual guidance will find this book poignant.
