The tabletop hobby has seen a resurgence over the past decade. Youtuber Bebo (founder, Be Bold Games) provides an accessible entry point into the hobby with descriptions of game mechanics and 100 games. The first chapter provides advice on finding a gaming group, what to look for in a local game store, and the types of settings to play games. A chapter on contemporary classics, such as Ticket to Ride, is a great starting point for newcomers. Subsequent sections are organized around a gaming technique, such as deck building, worker placement, or set collection. Entries for each game include recommended age range, approximate play time, number of players, and difficulty, as well as a basic rules overview and strategy suggestions. Though there are few pictures, those included depict components of play that complement instructions for set up.
VERDICT From short, simple games such as Happy Salmon to longer, strategic ones, including Twilight Struggle, the selections here span a wide range on the current market. This appeal to gamers of all experience levels and is highly recommended for all libraries with tabletop programming.
