Mel Bowling is one of those bosses who blasts his spittle-drenched opinions down everyone's neck, all the while keeping an aloof, superior distance from his employees, their work, and their lives. He has gathered a stable of creative individuals who can pump out a successful comic strip despite Mel offering no credit for or consideration of what they must endure in order to work for him. Each of the contributors to the Freddy Ferret assembly line has their own hopes and dreams. The reader gets a glimpse into these personal aspirations scattered throughout this hilarious tale.
VERDICT Multiple-award winner Bagge (Buddy Does Seattle; Woman Rebel) brings a tense, frantic-paced underground-comic style to this colorful, text-heavy anthology about the workplace. Anyone who has a job can relate to this comedy. Those in the comic strip industry may find it a bit close to home. Young adults to seniors will certainly be amused…when they aren't cringing.
