Moore (Encyclopedia of Alzheimer’s Disease) is a medical technologist, as well as a series editor for McFarland Health Topics. Her writing is informed by her knowledge of medical literature, but her accessible prose allows any interested patient or caregiver to understand recent advances in various topics. This volume in the “Health Topics” series focuses on the various viruses, prions, bacteria, fungal, and protozoan infections that research has linked to the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Moore starts with basic information about Alzheimer’s disease, and includes accessible data on genetic and environmental risk factors implicated in research, but the focus is on infectious causes. Recent microbiome research is included. Risk reduction strategies based on diet, exercise, other lifestyle changes, and experimental treatments are discussed.
