The travel experts at National Geographic have combined the magazine’s flair for photographs and insights on global locales, in this book celebrating and expanding the possibilities of weekend travel. Destinations are arranged by locale and kinds of experiences, plus broader categories such as enabled adventures and pet-friendly vacations. Entries on each destination are necessarily brief, some as short as half a page, others taking a few pages; their titles convey the type of experience or a key reason for visiting (“A Romantic Hamlet”; “Island Hop”). Each destination entry has information on the scene and its sensibility, accompanied by a photo that invites readers into the landscape.
