Admittedly, if someone knocked a whole tray of drinks on her and then launched a baby carrot into her face, she might be a bit rude too, but erotic artist Bea Wilmot apologized to that stuffy, too-handsome-for-his-own-good Jamie. To make matters worse, it appears Bea’s twin sister and her new fiancé, Jamie’s best friend and roommate, and all their friends are continuing to pull ruses to get Bea and hardworking pediatrician Jamie to connect. Bea may be autistic, but she can find her own dates, thank you very much. As for Jamie, his stuffiness is more a symptom of a complicated childhood and an attempt to mask his social anxiety. Tired of their friends’ attempts to get them to date, Bea and Jamie decide to try their own trick—fake-dating with a plan to implode their “relationship” spectacularly.
VERDICT Listeners may find that Stephen Dexter, the narrator for Jamie, doesn’t quite match the character’s on-page presence, but Charlotte North does a lovely, chirpy job for harried bisexual Bea. Liese’s (“Bergman Brothers” series) latest sparkling romance should appeal to fans of Helen Hoang and Tessa Bailey.
