Initially, this book, while colorful and well-written, seems similar to every other title on tarot, especially Mary K. Greer’s
21 Ways To Read a Tarot Card. However, the organization, pretty illustrations, and friendly tone make its opening chapters (which cover the care and feeding of a tarot deck, basic symbolism and correspondences, and the 78 card interpretations) worthwhile for beginners and experienced tarot readers who appreciate a tidy compendium. The singular element of this volume is a set of spells that use specific tarot cards as the foundation of the spellcraft. This is where the magic comes in, as Instagram phenom Squire (author of several “Witch of the Forest” guides) gives helpful, clear instructions for creating spells to induce love, healing, prosperity, and more.
VERDICT Cute and appealing. The wonderful list of suggested reading is a virtual who’s who of tarot (a good guide for parapsychology collection development). A helpful index completes the package.
