DEBUT Having become a new Christian as he recovers from alcohol-use disorder, actor John Pope is hoping that his latest movie (filming in tiny, out-of-the-way Hope Springs, AL) will get his career back on track. The usual trappings of movie-stardom hold little appeal as he struggles to improve his life. Adanne Stewart used to have dreams of being a famous movie makeup artist, but now she only cares if her new gig (on John’s movie filming in her hometown) can pay the bills, so she doesn’t lose her house or the community center her parents left to her. Trying to carry the burdens on her own, she doesn’t have time for John’s smooth-talking ways, but since she is in his face, doing his makeup, for several hours a day, he’s hard to avoid. Both John and Adanne have family baggage that limits the use of their talents, plus voices in every ear telling them which way to go.
VERDICT Destined to be a smash-hit rom-com similar to Toni Shiloh’s “Love in the Spotlight” series. In her fiction debut, Erlingsson’s (Milk & Honey in the Land of Fire & Ice) voice is warm, funny, faith-filled, and perfect for Hallmark movie lovers.
