Google GoneJune 30, 2008 I noticed an interesting thing at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA this year. For the first time in a while, Google is not exhibiting. This is particularly telling since the conference is only one short plane ride away from the Googleplex in the same state. In fact, all of their various efforts to woo (placate?) librarians have fallen on hard times. What does this mean? Well, for one thing, no more great parties. But beyond that I don't know, but it can't possibly be good.Posted by Roy Tennant on June 30, 2008 | Comments (10) Industries: News & Features

In response to: Google Gone Dean commented: Since Microsoft Live Book Search went down the tubes, Google has a monopoly in the online book search space. Why does a monopoly need to woo customers? Wake up folks, the 800-pound gorilla is sitting in your lap, even when he's not in the room.

In response to: Google Gone Tim Spalding commented: I think it's larger than that. They weren't at Book Expo America either. They held some partner meetings, but they had no booth.

In response to: Google Gone Bernie Sloan commented: More on Google and libraries. There's an article out today where the author worries that Google Book Search might wind up screwing up fair use for libraries. www.redorbit.com/news/technology/1462875/good_and_evil_in_the_garden_of_digitization/
