ALA Anaheim: All Quiet on the Western Front
July 1, 2008
Hopped aboard Crying Baby Airlines in the wee hours yesterday morning for a return trip from ALA Annual in
Anaheim. Personally, I found it lackluster. There just didn’t seem to be any real energy. I did attend several good sessions (will write those up later) and there was plenty of cool stuff on the show floor, but there just wasn’t a good vibe.
Despite sterling weather, Anaheim was a bad choice for ALA. Many librarians seemed to realize this beforehand and bailed—attendance was down by a few thousand. Even Orlando, the worst ALA site in history (ALA’s 2010 Annual originally scheduled for Orlando has been relocated to D.C.), despite the impossible navigation logistics was a high-energy show. I didn’t get that sense this time. Others no doubt will disagree.
If you haven’t been eyeing our daily show coverage, (which if I do say myself, is fab) have a look at a ton of stories, pix, and videos.
