Carolyn Walters has been bumped up from Executive Associate Dean of libraries at Indiana University, Bloomington, to Interim Dean. She will assume the duties of Patricia Steele, who recently retired. Walter has been with the university’s libraries for 22 years and was promoted to Executive Associate Dean in 2005.
Carole Pilkinton, Head of the Electronic Resources and Serials Access Department at the University of Notre Dame’s Hesburgh Library, IN, received an award from the American Library Association’s Machine-Assisted Reference Section (MARS) in recognition of her “excellence in service to MARS.” Susan Scheps, Youth Services Manager at Shaker Heights Public Library (SHPL), OH, received the 2009 Carolyn Grossman Award for Extraordinary Commitment to Families and Children from the Heights Parent Center. She has worked with area children and their parents and caregivers at SHPL for more than 26 years. Scheps has served on various committees of the Public Library Association and Association for Library Service to Children, including the Parent Education Services Committee and the 1989 Caldecott Committee.
