Bomb Evacuates Salt Lake City PL

Days after an apparently homemade bomb was detonated at the main facility of the Salt Lake City Public Library, LJ’s 2006 Library of the Year, officials were still looking for evidence, but at least no one was injured—and there were people 15 feet away.
While the September 15 incident caused the evacuation of some 400 people at 2:45 p.m. and kept the downtown library closed until the following morning, the only damage was a hole in a double-pane window.
Library director Nancy Tessman told LJ that patrons have asked if the library plans additional security. “Our response is to be conscious and watchful,” Tessman said. The library has several cameras and monitors, and while there was no footage captured of the event itself, police are going over other footage from the library that day.
