Ex Libris To Debut Project Primo

-- Library Journal, 2/6/2006

"Amazon, Google, Flickr, Facebook are defining the playing field," said Oren Beit-Arie, CSO of Ex Libris. "We have to take a look at user expectations. We're playing in the same playground." Ex Libris gave LJ a peek at Project Primo, a product to meet those Google-like expectations, directed toward end users. With Primo, said Beit-Arie, "We can plug in a different view on top of the OPAC, without dismantling the ILS," he said, "exposing all parts of the collection, from books, audio CD, images, journals." Unlike the OPAC, which can only search what's in the catalog, Primo can search across collections, print, digital, whatever. "We have to bring up the most relevant information as fast as possible," he said, to compete in the Google world.
