January 25 National Patriot Act Call-In Day

-- Library Journal, 1/19/2006

With the February 3 deadline looming for the reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act, this is a crucial time to lobby Congress. That's why the American Library Association has designated Wednesday, January 25 as National Patriot Act Call-In Day. Library advocates are asked to call both their Senators and their Representative and ask them to support the language in the Senate version of the Patriot Act reauthorization.

Specifically, ALA seeks Congressional support for:

  • the inclusion of language in Section 215 requiring a statement of fact linking the person whose records are sought to a terrorism investigation.
  • the inclusion of language allowing a Section 215 recipient to pose a meaningful challenge to a FISA Court order.
  • the inclusion of language allowing a Section 505 recipient to pose a meaningful challenge to National Security Letter.
