Los Angeles–based rapper Snoop Dogg (From Crook to Cook) teams up with fellow rapper E-40 for a second collection of recipes inspired by hip-hop, West Coast living, and some of their favorite foods. The book includes recipes for breakfast, munchies, drinks, main and side dishes, and desserts. The focus is on food and drinks for entertaining and includes party classics such as French onion dip with a garnish of crushed Funyuns and fried pickles with a Creole-spiced sauce. Asian influences feature prominently, with recipes for chicken wings glazed with a ginger and Sriracha sauce, beef lo mein, and bacon-cheeseburger lumpia. United States classics such as fried chicken, barbecue ribs, gumbo, and crab boil round out the collection. The book’s cocktails include three flavors of mimosas, a classic Pimm’s cup (renamed “Pimp’s cup”), a decadent and shareable Scorpion Bowl, and wine spritzers featuring Snoop’s brand of 19 Crimes wine. The conversational introductions to each recipe capture the authors’ voices and tastes, while the ingredient lists and directions are straightforward and easy to follow.
VERDICT Snoop’s many fans will appreciate his latest recipe collection, but it’s also great for any home cook interested in preparing distinctive appetizers, cocktails, and main dishes.
