India Lamont and Farris Quinn divorced under strained circumstances after a short but blissful marriage. India was confused and hurt by the divorce but her love for Farris’s mother convinces her to return to his ranch to care for her when she falls ill. The connection between Farris and India remains strong, and despite the pair’s best efforts they find themselves falling back into bed and reconnecting emotionally. Throughout the book Farris keeps the secret of why he pulled away from India and ended their marriage. The eventual reveal is satisfying but not such a betrayal that the reader will not still be rooting for Farris and India to reunite.
VERDICT Maynard’s (“Men of Wolff Mountain” series) new stand-alone romance sometimes substitutes physical peril for emotional stakes, but readers will still enjoy this story of reunited love.
