The designs in this second book from Comfort (after Sew Over It) combine vintage flair with contemporary style for a timeless, fashionable look. Included are pieces that sewists expect to find in a vintage-style text—box-pleat skirts, a sailor blouse—as well as some unusual ones, such as a wool capelet. However, Comfort doesn't list the necessary fabric yardage, and sewists are forced to sift through the brief introduction to each pattern to figure out what type of fabric is suggested. The designs are attractive, and drafting patterns based on individual measurements lead to a custom fit. Yet, it will try sewists' patience to read through the pattern carefully in order to decipher what is needed to make each piece.
VERDICT Vintage aficionados may prefer Gretchen Hirsch's retro-style collections.
