Here in Avalon

Raised by a wayward, bohemian mother in New York City, sisters Rose and Cecilia are complete opposites. Rose has built the life she always dreamed of—a good job, a clean apartment in New York, and a stable relationship. Cecilia is impetuous, jumping from one thing and one continent to another until she shows up in New York after her hasty marriage comes to an end. Soon, Cecilia becomes enmeshed with a group named the Avalon, a cultlike cabaret troupe that travels New York’s waterways at night, looking for lost souls. When Cecilia completely disappears, Rose tracks the Avalon on her own to learn what happened to her sister. Burton (The World Cannot Give) has written an atmospheric and intoxicating novel about love, sisterhood, and the lengths to which people will go to rescue those they love. Devon Sorvari narrates this urban fairy tale well, tapping into the otherworldly atmosphere while giving the sisters and the many members of the Avalon their own personalities.
