Kate Thorn is visiting her small hometown of Riverside, WV; shortly after she arrives, an impending storm forces everyone to evacuate. Bringing all the provisions they can carry, the town residents relocate to a campground at a higher elevation. As the valley is flooding with rainwater, Kate sees a man fall down the side of a mountain. When he’s rescued and brought back to camp, Kate recognizes the mysterious hiker—he’s none other than Jeremy Fulton, the Scottish actor who was Kate’s celebrity crush when she was younger. The town doctor tends to Jeremy as best she can, given the limited supplies. Kate nurses Jeremy back to health, and the two spend their days talking, flirting, and ultimately falling for one another. When it’s finally safe to go home, Kate must decide to whether to help her close-knit community rebuild Riverside or take a chance on love with Jeremy across the pond.
VERDICT If you like the coziness and charm of small-town life, Kile’s (Quarantine) contemporary will appeal, with a romance as sweet and warm as apple pie. Other readers may find the improbable set-up and grand gesture of love over the top.
