A Feast for Starving Stone

Instead of celebrating a marriage to unite two countries against a common foe, the land of Verdania now considers the country of Braiz an enemy, with Braiz’s Princess Solenn framed as a murderer by the country of Albion. With the bodies of Braizian sailors washing ashore, war has begun, and Chef to the Gods Ada Garland must find a way to protect and join her family: her daughter Solenn, who must navigate her tenuous role as ambassador to the magical and human worlds, and her long-separated love Captain Erwan Corre, who is due to be executed by Verdanian royals. Mother and daughter must fight for their family, and their countries, before war destroys everything—if the gods do not do it first. Cato creates a culinary magical system that centers the agency of magical creatures and gods along with a family divided by country and position. The layered political intrigue of warring countries with the ignorance of the costs of magic create conflict throughout the story.
