A hefty but entirely satisfying listen for Follett’s many fans and for those interested in the dynamics of early capitalism and the juxtaposition of compassion and greed during the Industrial Revolution in Britain. This is a solid addition to any collection of historical fiction, especially for libraries that own the other novels in the series.
Though a few notes may be needed to help keep the characters straight, Follett has written another masterly historical novel that will keep readers enthralled well past bedtime.
Recommended for fans of Follett's historic fiction and for those who love enthralling multigenerational family sagas. ["Pitch-perfect popular fiction that readers will devour," read the starred review of the Dutton hc, LJ 6/15/14.]
Though lengthy, Fall of Giants never seems too long or confusing. Great fun, this is sure to be one of the best sellers of the fall season. The global broadcast of a TV miniseries based on The Pillars of the Earth starring Ian McShane and Donald Sutherland is sure to garner even more attention. [See Prepub Alert, LJ 4/1/10.]
