William Crowe has retired from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where he had been Dean of Libraries, Vice Chancellor for Information Services, and Head of Spencer Research Library. For the past three years, he had been a Special Assistant to the current Dean of Libraries, Lorraine Haricombe.

Claudia Alcalá Iñiguez is now Social Sciences Librarian at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was most recently Bibliographer at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls.

Stacey Greenwell, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, University of Kentucky (UK) Libraries, Lexington, won the 2010 Special Libraries Association’s (SLA) Dow Jones Leadership Award. She is honored for her work with the SLA Kentucky Chapter and at UK and for her leadership as a founder and first chair of the SLA Academic ­Division.

Helen Spalding, University Librarian and Professor Emerita, has retired from Portland State University, OR. During her 36-year career, she also held management positions at the University of Missouri–Kansas City and at Iowa State University, Ames.

J. Robert Verbesey, Executive Director of the Southwest Florida Library Network, has retired after more than 35 years of managing libraries. He also taught library management and organization at four graduate library and information science programs in New York and Florida. Verbesey will continue to present workshops on library management.

Ann Baird Whiteside has been appointed Librarian of Frances Loeb Library and Assistant Dean for Information Resources at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Previously, at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, she headed the Rotch Library of Architecture and Planning.

Newly hired librarians within the University of Michigan Library system include: Emily Campbell, Special Projects Librarian, Technical Services; Sauraub Koparkar, User Experience Librarian, User Experience Unit; Darlene Nichols, Lead Librarian for Diversity Programs and Initiatives, Office of the Dean; Judy Smith, Taubman Health Sciences Library Liaison Librarian to the North Campus Research Complex; and Timothy Utter, Access and Information Services Librarian, Maps, Government Information, and Data Services department.

In Memoriam

Dan Marmion, who retired in April from his position as Associate Director for Information Systems and Digital Access, University of Notre Dame Hesburgh Libraries, South Bend, IN, died on September 22. He was an active, longtime member of the Library & Information Technology Association and editor of its journal Information Technology and Libraries from 1999 through 2004.
