Grey’s (The Immortal Prudence Blackwood) latest is set a few years after a zombie outbreak that has been nominally controlled. The ZRT (zombie response team) is the organization set up to deal with any loose zombies that mosey in from the uncleared areas or that turn up in hidden places. The leader of the ZRT, Elisabeth Mayfair, is an abnormal—one of the few survivors of zombie bites who have surprising talents and strength. An outbreak of zombie attacks that seem to be coordinated and controlled by a malevolent force put Elisabeth and her team to the test in an exciting and fresh story. The novel is brief and light and wonderful—hopefully a set-up for a new series that will definitely be worth purchasing. The cover art is moody and fits the novel perfectly.
VERDICT Perfect for readers who like their zombie novels with a little extra bite. Recommend to those who enjoyed Ben Tripp’s “Rise Again” duology and Peter Clines’s “Ex-Heroes” series.
