The American Cancer Society estimates there will be more than 1.7 million new cancer cases in the United States in 2018. Conventional treatments don't always succeed and often have side effects, leading some patients to seek alternative or complementary care. Former lawyer Beljanski, daughter of the late Mirko Beljanski, a molecular biologist who developed botanical extracts used to treat cancer and the effects of treatment, has carried on her father's legacy since his death in 1998. Here she discusses continuing his work, including starting the Beljanski Foundation to advance his research and networking with doctors and scientists to promote new findings into the efficacy of the extracts on cancer cells. Beljanski encourages patients to question their doctors regarding treatment options and quality of life but relies too heavily on conspiracy theories and limited recent research results. She only discreetly acknowledges her business interests in the supplements used in the research. Moreover, preliminary investigations into Mirko's extracts suggests they are worthy of further examination.
