Knitter Osmond is not a fan of crochet shorthand (i.e., abbreviations used to indicate stitch types, repeats, and pattern markers), which may make the book easier for novices but is certain to elicit a reaction from the advanced crochet crowd. There are also inconsistencies in how yarn weight is denoted, so if readers are unsure, they may need to look up the yarn Osmond suggests to find the weight and yardage. Overall, this book has cute patterns that are well-tested and guaranteed to keep a child’s interest for hours.
VERDICT While the book deviates from standard crochet terminology, the patterns within are certain to appeal to the youngster crowd.
